Introducing the Anat Baniel Method® Neuromovement®

The Anat Baniel Method (ABM) is a science-based NeuroMovement® approach designed to improve your brain’s ‘map’ of your body and the way you move. This approach wakes up the brain to create new connections and new neurological pathways that can enhance your movement and enjoyment of life. ABM helps people improve the way they move, think, and feel. While there are many methods that try to accomplish this, ABM stands out as unique in how we go about achieving these goals.

We use a NeuroMovement® approach that utilizes the science of brain plasticity. Through movement and touch, we access the brain and give it the opportunity to learn new skills and discover new possibilities. ABM practitioners provide the optimal conditions for the brain to perceive finer and more subtle differences. The result is a faster, more skillful, and better learning brain.

Whether your goal is to move more freely, rid yourself of aches and pains, improve your balance, cope with a chronic health issue, or increase athletic or artistic performance ABM will empower you to live life more fully, with greater joy and success.

anatAnat Baniel, founder of the Anat Baniel Method®, is the author of two books, Move Into Life: NeuroMovement® for Lifelong Vitality and Kids Beyond Limits. Anat was trained as a clinical psychologist and dancer. She studied under Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais and worked closely with him for more than fifteen years. Anat combined the teachings of Feldenkrais with her own understanding and techniques. She is the director of the Anat Baniel Method Center in San Rafael, California where she has helped thousands of people of all ages, children to elderly, and all professions and walks of life to move beyond limitations and achieve greater energy, strength, and success.

There is no limit to the improvement of movement.

Gail Wood is an extremely gifted therapist. Not only does she have very sensitive and knowledgeable hands, she has a God-given gift in knowing how to work with each individual. A session with Gail is a wonderful way to wake up the sleeping parts of our bodies that just need a reminder of how they were created to work in harmony with the rest of the body. Every session is a unique and individualized session based on what you body needs. Gail has been very helpful to me on my healing journey and I highly recommend working with her.

Lynn, Licensed Massage Therapist

“I was born with mild Cerebral Palsy and suffer from muscles spasms that are very painful. As an adult I had back surgery. After receiving 10 consecutive sessions with Gail, I had increased flexibility, my muscle spasms diminished and my sleep improved. I went from a high level to a low level of body spasticity with long lasting effects. I was able to get up from a chair and I experienced deeper breathing. The sessions were very soothing and enjoyable. Gail has an intuitive touch that communicates with the brain and a gentle manner that put me at ease and helped me feel safe and secure. I initially questioned what the gentle movement could accomplish yet it seemed more effective than other interventions I have experienced. I find ABM to be a more innovative and progressive way to do therapy on people with brain injuries.”

Cherie/Speech and Language Pathologist/Special Education Resource Teacher

“I have been really enjoying my new strategy for standing up and sitting down. Getting my butt out has transformed getting in and out of the car! The technique has also transformed getting up from the couch and chairs around the house. Also, the work on the table really did change the way I stood and moved. I could feel it and my wife really noticed how I stood and moved. The sessions have really made a difference!”

Jim, Organizational Change Consultant, retired

“Over the course of my career I have been exposed to innumerable techniques, but none have been as powerful. The changes are incredible. Last winter I was experiencing relentless pain in my left jaw and ear.  I had tried every type of traditional and homeopathic treatment but nothing provided the relief that I was looking for.  I was beginning to think that the pain may be dental and was preparing to have my dentist further investigate.  Just before setting up an appointment however, I went to Gail for a private session.  During that session she discovered there was a lot of pressure around my sinuses radiating to my jaw and ear.  Afterwards, I experienced immediate relief from my symptoms lasting for several days. Following several sessions and practicing more functional movement of my jaw, the pain subsided and has not returned.  I am thankful for the work that Gail does and for being able to avoid what may have been more invasive and unnecessary treatment.”

Tammy, Special Needs Coordinator

“All I can say is wow!!  I slept for a solid 6 hours without moving. That has not happened in years!!  I consider it a good night when I can get 3 hours all together.  Trying to be more conscious today of how I sit, stand and walk.”

Cheryl, Customer Service Representative

“I feel the ‘no pain, no gain’ exercise mentality is harmful and keeps people from taking care of themselves in the long run. Gail’s movement classes turn that outdated belief ‘upside down’ and reinforce a new way of being in the body that focuses on gentle movement to enhance overall health. Gail’s warm, approachable style along with her knowledge and attention to detail helped me tremendously. Subtle changes in how I move my body have positively impacted not only on how I feel physically, but also how I feel about myself mentally and emotionally.  Her teachings have practical application well beyond the actual class and will change how you think about yourself and your body on a daily basis. I believe Anat Baniel Method® NeuroMovement® should be part of any well-rounded fitness program that emphasizes joy and pleasure in the body and I am glad we have someone in our area so well-trained to provide this service.”
